- INTRODUCTION
-
- Desert Frog Screen Scenes are screen savers with a twist.
- Instead of simply blanking the screen after periods with no
- keyboard entry, they do something fun. DISSOLVE makes your
- text dissolve away. MESSAGE displays a 20-character message
- of your choice which bounces around the screen. BUGS! gives
- you a cute little bug dashing across the screen at
- intervals. TAPEWORM draws a colorful geometric pattern on
- the screen, erasing and redrawing it at intervals to prevent
- burn-in. On VGA cards, it works in 256 color mode! LINES
- draws objects reminiscent of the old QIX(?) game which chase
- each other across the screen. No longer do you have to have
- a boring blank screen when the computer is on but not in
- use.

-
- 2) Floppy Disk:

- You can only use the following ones from this disk: DISSOLVE
- and MESSAGE. To use DISSOLVE, copy the files called
- DISSOLVE.EXE and D1.EXE. To use MESSAGE, copy the files
- called MESSAGE.EXE and M1.EXE.
-
- USING DESERT FROG SCREEN SCENES
-
- Now that you have them installed use the following process
- to activate them.
-
- Add the Screen Scene to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Include the
- full path to the Screen Scene. For example, if you have the
- Screen Scene BUGS! in the directory C:\DFSS, your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file should include, preferably as the last
- line, the following command: C:\DFSS\BUGS!.
-
- Once they are installed, all the Screen Scenes will
- automatically activate themselves after a period of several
- minutes with no keyboard activity. They can be manually
- activated by typing <ALT>., (ALT PERIOD). All will
- automatically deactivate themselves when a key is pressed.
- To prevent a Screen Scene from activating, say when you
- are using a program with no keyboard input, type <ALT>; (ALT
- SEMICOLON). To reactivate the Screen Scene, type <ALT>'
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- (ALT SINGLE QUOTE). To remove the Screen Scene from memory,
- just call it again from the DOS prompt. For example, if you
- have BUGS! installed in D:\DFSS and wish to remove it from
- memory, type D:\DFSS\BUGS! If there is nothing loaded into
- memory after the Screen Scene, it will remove itself from
- memory.
-
- NOTE: Screen Scenes will not pop up over graphics programs,
- or programs running in graphics modes.
-
- REMINDER: Screen Scenes only work with CGA, EGA or VGA
- cards, or cards that are 100% compatible with them.
-
- MESSAGE: This Screen Scene will display a message up to 20
- characters long. To enter a message, put it into the
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file with underscores separating the words of
- the message. For example, putting this line in your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file, C:\DFSS\MESSAGE Desert_Frog!. will result
- in the message "Desert_Frog!" appearing on the screen.
-
- DISSOLVE: When this Screen Scene activates it dissolves the
- screen. That is, it randomly picks characters on the screen
- and turns that location blank. This process continues until
- the entire screen is blanked. DISSOLVE looks best when you
- use a program like Word Perfect or Microsoft Works that has
- a colored background for text.
-
- BUGS!: Your computer has been infested by bugs. This
- Screen Scene tries to blank the display. Unfortunately, the
- machine now has a bug in it. It's easy to tell since the
- little critter dashes back and forth across the screen every
- so often!
-
- TAPEWORM: This Screen Scene draws colorful patterns on the
- screen. These patterns appear, then, blank out, then appear
- again. The numbers of colors used depends on the video card
- you have. On VGA cards, the patterns use the 256 color
- mode!.
-
- LINES: This Screen Scene draws screen patterns
- reminiscent of the game QIX. Two objects move across the
- screen, seemingly chasing and playing together.
